Simplicity

Whatever the tasks, do them slowly with ease, in mindfulness,
do not do any tasks with the goal of getting them over with.
Resolve to each job in a relaxed way, with all your attention.

Thich Nhat Hanh, Zen Master

In our daily lives, we often rush through tasks, trying to get them done, trying to finish as much as we can each day, rushing here and there. This is crazy.

At the end of the day we are exhausted and stressed out. We have no time for the things that are important to us, for what we really want to be doing, for spending time with loved ones, for doing things we’re passionate about.

It doesn’t have to be that way. It is entirely possible to live a simpler life, where you can actually enjoy yourself. Take a step back and think about what is really important to you. What do you really want to be doing?

Part of the problem is that our lives are way too full. There is no way we can do all the things we have committed to doing without becoming incredibly stressed about how to achieve it. We need to accept that we can’t do everything, and try to eliminate the commitments that aren’t as important.

So don’t fill your day up with things to do. You can’t do everything and even if you could, more things will come up. Slow down and enjoy everything. Be in the moment. Do one thing at a time, and do it well.

In addition to slowing down and enjoying the tasks you do, take some time to yourself. Sometimes, it’s good to do nothing.

Slow down now - you know it makes sense.
