Modern society has grown rude. We have lost our manners. We use bad language as an everyday occurrence, we shout at our parents, partners, children, animals, strangers. Opening a door for someone, or standing on the bus or train for an pregnant woman or elderly person is a rarity now.
Everyone deserve courtesy. I don't think we are courteous any more, especially to our elders. These are the people who have raised us, given us love, cried, laughed, fed us, worked long hours so that they could provide for us, fought for our freedom, taught us. They deserve to be treated with dignity and courtesy.
We don't listen.
We don't offer to help people.
We have forgotten our manners. A simple please and thank you can mean a lot. Good manners are the first mark of good breeding and reflect directly on a person’s upbringing.
We don't show interest. You will learn a lot by talking to people about their lives. We sometimes have no idea just what hard times they have lived through.
We have no patience any more. We want it and we want it now, so we go and get it - regardless of how it affects others.
I would like to think that most people are honest, hard working, socially conscious, environmentally sensitive, generous, polite, broad-minded, non-violent and tolerant. Sadly, this is not the case.
We need to get back to the basics - only then will we perhaps have a chance to make a start on stopping the violence and anger that seems to be an accepted part of our everyday living now - it is NOT acceptable. We need to change.
Be part of that change, help it happen. Perform a random act of kindness or courtesy today - whether it is to a member or your family, friends, or a complete stranger.
